About
I released my resilient spirit...
I speak about the unspeakable. I am a survivor of childhood sexual abuse and later in life domestic violence.. During my lifetime, I have worked hard to conquer my personal monsters and now I am on a journey to help others as a published author. My entire career has been about helping others, personally and professionally. I spent twenty-one years as an employee at the San Diego Attorney’s Office, helping victims of various crimes receive justice. I then moved to the San Diego Better Business Bureau, where I served as Vice President of Operations. I decided I needed to make a move in my career where I would continue to be challenged to help as many people as possible. I took a position as President and CEO of national non-profit Identity Theft Resource Center. This position allows me to service identity crime victims at a national level and educate the public about dangers and prevention techniques as a recognized expert on identity theft, data breaches and scams.
I have previously been featured on CBS Evening News, CNBC Nightly Business Report, Forbes, Kiplinger, The New York Times, Reuters, The Washington Post and other reputable news sources. I am a seasoned public speaker and invited to events in the U.S. and the U.K., and have presented at Cifas’ Perspectives in Fraud and Financial Crime Annual Conference, Victims Of Crime Act (VOCA) National Training Conference, and multiple events with the Federal Trade Commission. I have been lucky enough to be recognized for my work as a recipient of awards like: the National Crime Victim Service Award from the Department of Justice and OVC, the National Consumer League’s Florence Kelley Consumer Leadership Award, The Stevie® Award for Women in Business internationally and the San Diego Business Journal 2016 Women Who Mean Business Award.
"This community is a place to shed shame, and eliminate the stigma of being a survivor and release your resilient spirit."
This is Resilience is a community for fellow survivors, their friends, and families, and supporters. It is a safe space for people to come who are seeking advice on how to deal with personal monsters and gain outside support in doing so. This community is a place to shed shame, and eliminate the stigma of being a survivor. We are strong individuals who have persevered, and together we are even stronger. Many survivors struggle with placing traumatic experiences into the proper context of their lives, and I am no different. I have constantly questioned myself about when, how, and to whom I can talk about this issue. Now is my (our) time, here is our safe space. ThisisResilience.com is where I can hopefully begin to tip the iceberg and answer these hard questions for victims and survivors who have struggled like I have in the past.
I want to give you the ThisisResilience.com gives you the tools to help yourself, and your support system, to move through the discomfort and have a productive and meaningful conversation. Together our community can chip away at the shame of victimization and ensure that although sexual abuse is something we experienced, but it’s not who we are it doesn’t define who we truly are. Together we will find the balance in acknowledging this experience in the full context of our lives, while not making it a core part of our identity. I am so much more than a victim. I am a mother, a wife, a CEO, a problem solver, a writer, and a victim. I speak about the unspeakable. You can, too.
